PB oatmeal balls are an EASY food to prepare, gives exposure to the peanut allergen, and turns oatmeal into a finger-food that is easy to self-feed.

Ingredients:

  • Oats (you can use whatever type of oat you prefer: rolled oats, steel cut, instant, etc. I do recommend avoiding the packets of flavored oatmeal for new eaters as they usually have added sugars)

  • Water or milk

  • Peanut butter

Directions:

  1. Cook oats according to package directions. You can prepare it however you prefer: microwave or stovetop. And you can use either milk or water for the liquid.

  2. Stir in a spoonful of peanut butter. I’ve never measured this – just stir in a spoonful and mix well.

  3. Let the oatmeal cool. It will likely be really hot after cooking. Let it sit until it is cool enough to touch with your hands.

  4. Form oatmeal into balls by rolling between your hands. If oatmeal is too sticky to work with, let it cool down more. It will be easier and easier to roll into balls as it cools.

  5. Offer to baby and let them enjoy picking up the oatmeal balls.
